Ideal boiler L1 fault code & how to fix it

the Ideal Boiler L1 fault, As your boiler gets older it will develop problems as things mechanical do, the older they get especially if they have not been serviced or maintained properly.

Ideal Heating are based in Hull,Yorkshire state from the manual given with your ideal boiler that the L1 boiler fault error code is.

Flow temperature overheat or no water flow. It then goes onto tell you to check your water pressure. This is very easy to do. Look at your pressure gauge and if it is between 1 and 1.5 you should be OK with and can discount that if you still have a problem.

So then we will have to check a few more things on your ideal boiler if you are still getting the L1 error code.

The 4 Main Issues Causing An L1 Ideal Boiler Fault

  • Faulty flow temperature thermistors/sensors – All boilers have a temperature sensors called thermistors. These read the temperature going into the boiler and the temperature going out of the boiler. The boilers circuit board knows what these temperatures should be and if they go outside of those expected parameters they will give you this error code. Now this may either because the thermistors themselves are faulty or another component is faulty causing the error.

  • Limescale or sludge build up within the boiler – if you live in a hard water area and do not have sufficient hard water protection then limescale can furr up the pipes internally restricting water flow causing this error, Also if you do not have sufficient protection against sludge then again this will also cause the pipes to sludge up and block up or restrict the flow of water causing the L1 error.

  • Faulty central heating Pump – this is the most common cause of an L1 Fault. The Pump can either seize due to age wear and tear, dirty central heating system water or an electrical fault in the pump. Once this happens the pump stops circulating the water causing no water flow and in turn the boiler will over heat.

  • Faulty PCB – Although this is a rare fault it does happens sometimes. Basically part of the circuits become faulty and cannot take the readings from the boiler.

How do I get this fault Fixed.
