Frequently Asked Questions about Boilers

Take a look at some frequently asked questions below.

  • What Conditions are There Attached to a Boiler Warranty and Guarantee?

The only restriction of warranties from boiler manufacturers is that the boiler has been installed to the manufacturer’s specifications and that we perform an annual boiler service.

  • Which Boiler is Right For Me?

The boiler you need is determined by the size of your property and hot water requirements. So a boiler suitable for a one-bedroom property would not be suitable for a 4/5 bedroom. It is best in most cases to get a full no-obligation boiler survey carried out by one of our gas safe registered engineers. We don’t use salesmen, so you can be sure you get the best advice needed. Find your perfect boiler today!

  • How Can You Help Keep To My Budget?

We have a range of boilers available for all budgets, with a range of warranties and guarantees.

  • Which Type of Boiler Do I Need?

There are 4 types of gas boiler installed in homes today.
    1. Combi Boilers – the most common.
    2. Heat-only Boilers – you will nearly always have a hot water cylinder and tanks in your loft.
    3. System Boilers – you will nearly always have a hot water cylinder but no tanks in the loft as it will be a sealed system.
    4. Back Boilers – A now obsolete system no longer manufactured. But this installed in the fireplace behind a Gas fire and heat a hot water cylinder.

  • Where Will My New Boiler Be Located?

Around 85% of the time it will be located in the same place as your old one. But we are always available to give you advice on your new boiler if you would like to relocate it to another part of your home.

  • How Many People in Your Home?

This can determine the size of the boiler you need in your property and what type of boiler or system you should have based on your heating and hot water needs.

  • Who Should I Choose as an Installer?

A gas safe registered plumber needs to install your boiler by law. All our engineers are gas safe registered. As we are not tied to one manufacturer we can give unbiased advice on which boiler and we have at this time over 100 5* star reviews on our Google business listing.

  • My old boiler doesn't have a thermostat. Why does my new boiler need one if my original boiler installer says I didn't need one?

This is now a requirement with all new boiler installation due to part L energy Regulations and we fit them as standard. It has always been best practice to fit a thermostat as it will control the heating better in your home and if the installer didn’t install one then that is bad practice. Having a thermostat installed can save you up to £100- 150 per year on your bill.

  • Do I need a magnetic filter on my boiler?

We fit magnetic filters as standard on all of our installations, unless specifically requested by you, although we would advise against this. The reason being the magnet helps catch all the dirt and debris floating around before it enters your boiler.
This helps to improve reliability and cut breakdowns, as well as helping with energy efficiency. The biggest factor with regards to the reliability of your boiler is magnetite or black sludge as it is more commonly known. This is the most common cause of all internal boiler failures. The black sludge is a type of iron oxide (rust) that wears down and blocks boiler components. Having a filter installed helps prevent unwanted breakdowns and improves reliability.

  • What Guarantee Will I Get With My New Boiler?

This will depend on the type of boiler you have installed, but the minimum warranty we offer is a 5-year parts and labour manufacturers warranty.

  • How Long Will It Take to Have My New Boiler Installed?

This will depend on the boiler and the other work you have requested to be done. But typically this is completed within a day but can take up to 3 days if you are having a boiler and cylinder converted to a combi boiler or having your new boiler moved to another part of your home.
